When speedos are new they are correct. Things like smaller or bigger tires can throw it off. Check yourself at a police speed trap or a gps.

Most bike speedometers are off by 7-10%, or so I have heard.

the 500r has the speedo stuff setup in the front tire, and my 'ol bike never had much of an issue with the speedo being off too bad, but at 70mph+ it is going to be off some. (7-10% as said above)

Most modern bikes read high. No one seems to know why. Borrow a GPS and clock your bike to know for sure. Mine's been +8% since new.

+1

Mine is off close to 10%, my nephew's Ninga 250 is off about the same, and my son's GSX-R 600 is off the same.
If you can, have someone follow you, or you follow their car for a speedo check.
GPS works well also.

With all the bikes I have had, I have found that the ones that do not run the speedo off the front tire are up to 15% off. Most are around 10 to 12% off.
