2 years? you're just getting used to the routine of the insanity.

that said, I believe once you start getting north of sf, CA becomes rather rural and dare I say it, some place one would want to live?

or you could be somewhere in the mountains too.

I grew up with all the "screw L.A." sentiment of any midwesterner but I think SoCal gets a bad rap. The arguments/jokes about L.A. being dirty, overrun with immigrants or vapid and vain are maybe accurate to a point, but there's a lot of local goodness that people who aren't locals can't appreciate or even know about. And I live in Hollywood, which is kind a sh*t hole, but it's my sh*t hole.

But ftr, I will someday run back home to the midwest.

actually, I wouldn't call it bad because of the people - any large metropolitan area is going to have that. Having been to the chicago metro area a number of times, it's a zoo because of the traffic.

The 15 mph rush hour traffic is what would drive me crazy.

Which reminds me, how big a mess was it when they had to close down the bay bridge a few weeks back?

I know s. CA is not anywhere near the bridge, but you had to have heard a lot more about it they we heard around these parts.

Actually Jim, I hadn't heard word one about that...maybe I'm in more of a bubble than I thought,....but I also don't have TV of my own, so I only tend to stay up on really obvious news stories. I guess the traffic can get bad, but I don't mind it....it's only truly bad when it rains....which it is doing right now for the first time in 6 months. It will be a neat ride home, to say the least.

BREAKING NEWS: SCATTERED LIGHT SPRINKLES ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA - TRAFFIC SNARLED. LET'S GO LIVE TO THE FIELD:

Reporter: How did the storm affect you?
Guy on the Street: Well, I got a little wet, and traffic sucks.
Reporter: How did the rain feel?
Guy on the Street: I don't know, I guess a little wet.
Reporter: How did you prepare for the biggest storm of the season so far?
Guy on the Street: Uh...I brought my umbrella.

No joke, these are the interviews we're in for tonight. BTW, this is the ONLY "storm" of the season so far! I could understand it if we floated out to sea, but it's sprinkling. I know we're expecting harder rain later, but even if that doesn't show up, we're still in for the idiotic news stories.

BTW, Human, if I go to a brick 'n mortar for my photography stuff, I go to either Samy's on Fairfax or Calumet on Highland. Working the Scream Awards at the Greek this weekend. You do live in a cool area to visit!

Here's a picture of our traffic, before 4pm, and it's not raining! Each diamond/square is a traffic hazard! Dang!

reminds me about the argument for cars being computer linked and driving themselves; it would be difficult to be any worse.

and there's somebody out there w/out tv?

although with high speed 'net, the tv issue can be pretty much mitigated.

For example, if I had a mind to, a 2nd video card running on my computer with another screen (heck for 2 bills you can get 20 inch monitors) it wouldn't be hard for me to surf (or type such as I am doing here) and basically have tv on the other monitor.

It wouldn't even be hard to get the second video card to have a coax connection and feed a full size tv.

yeah I keep busy with Netflix and the like, can always hit a bar or buddy's place for the important games (internet takes care of my fantasy issues).

Hollywood/central L.A. is definitely a neat part of town, it is beyond crammed with tourist traps and legitimate attractions, but if you know where to look you can still find some decent pubs and the roads up Mulholland are some of the most remote and fun for easy going cruising.

And there is a bit of legitimacy to L.A. drivers freaking when it rains....other climates with more often rainfall see various road guck (oil/fluids/slicks) washed over or washed away with some sort of regularity. In the desert that stuff just sits on the road way and soaks into it until the rain comes for one of it's 4 annual visits....this creates a slick road surface that really only gets cleaned up if there is a significant downpour.....not saying the ignorance of not knowing how to hold back a little bit isn't a (majority) factor, but the road conditions do change noticeably.

I also like L.A. because anything big on tour comes through here. Whether it's concerts or some Euro team playing the Galaxy or bike promotions, it's nice to not have to travel too far.

...........as long as it's not raining.

all them bald tires combined with more power than you need and extry slippery greasy roads, and that's what you get.

You grew up with that stereotype but I grew up in it. Lived in LA, and surrounding communities. YUCK!! Went to my dads funeral in July and I still think it is an ugly s#&t hole. Never said anything about being overrun by immigrants, I went to school with, hispanics, blacks, asians, etc... Great folks, some crappy some not, kinda like us white folk, some crappy, some not. Now San Diego or No. Cal. are nice.

Well lucky us....something the left coast and the breadbasket can both enjoy (okay, I guess moreso if you're a Duc man like myself): 2010 Ducati MotoGP Pass Contest

hype them on your facebook, and you get a chance to win free weekend passes to the North American GP dates. I could conceivably win for both.
