I've been looking for this forum for quite some time. No one told me about it, but I knew it had to be somewhere. When I hit the right idea it just jumped out at me. Go figure. I ride a 2000 750 Honda Shadow ACE. I picked it up in Boca Raton, Fl last year in January, rode it home to Pensacola. I'm on it every week, and most every day. This spring, as soon as I can get on the road and not freeze, I'm headed west to the Nevada desert. I've been there, have friends there, and while they have to work, I don't. I hope to isolate myself for a week or so just to feel the quietness.

If you have information on traveling across the south, I sure would like to hear it.

Cowboyup, just where is Lancaster? I'm heading for Texas in the spring, and further west, and sort of had an idea I would go south of Dallas/Ft worth to avoid the crowds. You got any thoughts on that? My email is horizonfinder07@cox.net

welcome folks, enjoy the wealth of knowledge here, post often and ride safe.

Rocinante, enjoy the journey across the south. drgibson should be able to give you plenty of pointer on the DFW area, as may a few others here on the forum. Keep us posted on your adventures.

Hello Everyone,
My name is Deb, I live in Illinois, I am married to a wonderful man for the longest time who has decided to put up w/ all my craziness for the longest time, and I love him for that! I will be going and getting my mc lic again, yes again, I actually took the mc class yrs ago, but didn't realize I took the test, no one told me, I thought it was a pretty blue slip to show my insurance so I can get a better rate on mc ins. I was young and dumb I suppose. Any way I am alot more wiser (at least I hope so), a mom of 4, they are all grown up now and have new little lives of their own, so I figured it was time to begin where I left off 20 some yrs ago. Begin again. I am looking for a bike, we are doing some window shopping. I will be riding the bike back and forth to work (50 miles 1 way) plus want to keep up with traffic and go on trips, fun runs and all that fun stuff, so any suggestions you can give me, I would really enjoy and embrace.
Thank you so much,
Peace Out~
Deb

Hi Deb, welcome!

There is a wealth of information around here ... sometimes you need to blow away some cobwebs to find it. Glad that you've found your way "back" to riding!

Here's the Cliff's Notes version of our "newbie" advice:

1) Take the MSF course (you're on the right track!)

2) Look for a used bike to begin with - 35-40 horsepower is more than enough - and use the money you save on the bike to get the best gear (helmet, jacket, spine protector, gloves, pants and boots) along with the best insurance you can afford.

3) Start out riding (wearing full gear) in a parking lot, away from any traffic. Practice the slow-speed maneuvers and get comfortable with the controls (clutch, brakes, turn signals, gear shift, etc.) before you try to enter traffic.

4) Don't ride with others unless they are willing to accept your level of experience. Don't try to keep up with others - ride your own ride.

5) Learn how to maintain your bike, too. At least the basic stuff - tightening bolts to specification, changing the oil/filter or spark plugs, etc.

6) Post lots of pictures on Motorcycle-Journal.com

Red face Wish I were riding

Hi, I`m new to motorcycling. Got my first bike a year ago Dec for my 50th birthday. As of yesterday I lack 8 miles having 7,000. My son gave me pinstriping for Xmas, and I have feathers all over it. I love riding back roads and in the mountains.

Thumbs up

Howdy all;
Dont let the accent fool you. I'm from NJ and have recently purchased a 2006 Boulevard C90T after having outgrown my 1978 GS 400 Suzuki. Still getting use to the big bike and watching the fuel meter. With only 3.7g capacity, cant go far. I love to ride, but I need a destination and riding partners. My dealer is trying to put together some riding tours, but this is in the pipeline.
Safe riding to all.

Hello. My name is ike. I am 41, married for four years, have two daughters age 4 and 9. I live in Murfreesboro, a town just south of Nashville, TN.

I've been riding motorcycles on the street since 1978, and street bikes since 1988. All have been Suzuki's of one sort or another. I currently own an '05 Suzuki S83/VS1400.

Most of my ride time is commuting to and from Nashville, but I especially enjoy discovering the backroads and planning day and weekend trips. I also enjoy group riding. I appreciate two lanes, small towns, eaterys, general stores, old fuel stations, barns, and concrete picnic tables tucked in a small grassy opening at the edge of the road.

I hope to meet and ride with some of you along the way.

=ike=
