Greetings all. I just bought a new 06 Suzuk S83 red. I've ridden for several years in my hayday but left the bikeworld about 10 years ago. I hope I can get back into this thing with being 63 years old and have a terrible aching back. Anyway, glad to be here and hope to be talking with some of you soon......John

Yes, it changes based on your post count. Nothing for you to be worried about.

Hi, out there in bit-land...

New forum member. Retired technoid, living in Richmond California, driving a Suzuki Savage mostly in the twisties of the East Bay and Marin County, with occasional forays into the San Francisco Peninsula, working on getting down to Mt. Hamilton.

Although the Savage is a small bike, to me it has a big motor. I have been riding now for fifty years, starting with an Allstate Puch 250, a Vespa 125 and a Salsbury scooter, all in high school, 1956 on.

In college, a range from Puch 50cc moped (also Allstate/Sears Boebuck) a Zundapp 250 Courier bike from the German army, a Zundapp 650 much like the Norton Atlas 750, which I also owned, a Heinkel 250 scooter, and a Triumph 650 Thunderbird single carb, which my roommate and I drove to San Francisco from Tallahassee.

Arrived in San Francisco, and had the bike stolen two days later. Didn't realize it was a popular TT model because of the castiron barrels. Bought a BMW R51/3 open driveshaft 500 from an aircraft mechanic, and was so impressed I stuck with BMW through 14 of them total, from an R27 to an R69S, and after a hiatus of 20 years, an R65 and another R27.

Also have owned several thumpers, from a Gold Star 500 to Matchless 600 Typhoon and G80CS, which is why I'm now driving the Savage. It is a fine bike for getting to the twisties and canyons, and an excellent bike for blasting around the trees, meadows and cliffs of the California landscape.

It's a bit of a small bike, but I'm mid-size tall and very stocky, from a bit of weightlifting and a lot of fishing, lumbering, and construction, and with the mandatory double thick gel seat, and a Supertrapp muffler, the experience couldn't be nicer. Being retired, I just wait for a nice day and enjoy the highway uncluttered usually by excess cagers.

I'm hoping to hit the Sierras again come warm spring, running 49 and 108 and so on. I'm a member of Pashnit.com, which I strongly recommend if you drive California.

Glad to meet and ride with anyone who stays below 80. I'm over the days of hassling cagers and scaring the horses. Been known to talk politics, philosophy and cognitive science over a beer or two. Not planning to join the growing ranks of old farts that buy and drive too much motorcycle way too fast.

Thanks for listening. My email is posted.

Howdy!

I'm an old geezer, retired USARMY, bought my first motorcycle (Yamaha RSTD) 6 months ago, steep learning curve but now I'm having a blast. The wife liked riding behind me so much she went out and bought herself a Yamaha Silverado 650 2 days ago! The weekends are spent on the road!
