Default Motivational Tool - 1976 CB550

Hi, I'm libertyb. A friend of mine was chucking a a 1976 Honda CB550. I'm not sure if I did the right thing, but I told him that if he is going to throw that away, I'll take it off your hands. Poor bike. I got put away in a running mode in 2001. Went from a garage, to woodshed, to outside with no tarp. There it sat for a couple of years.
Why did I do this? Well, I used to own a 74 CB450 DOHC back in 1980 and this bike seemed like a good replacement.

After taking it home, I've questioned my sanity. Gas tank had rust, Shifter won't shift. That's a seperate thread. I think its bonded to the left side cover.
Won't kick over, but, I almost got the engine off the frame. I couple more wrench turns and the engine will be right out.

All in all its a pretty solid bike. I'm worried about the motor, but I won't know until someone takes a peak.

I will post more as I get going.

Ohhh- the motivation part. The bike is getting the juices flowing again to work on my car which I bought after I sold the 450 back in 1982. The car... 57 Chevy. Another project.

Cheers.

Sounds like a fun restoration project. Good luck w/ that and definitely need some pics once you get some progress done!

We missed it. When? Just now. When will then be now? Soon.

Welcome man!! Glad to see you wanting to wrench on some old japanese metal. If you need parts feel free to give me a line. I have a 75 almost whole parts bike that would provide some nice pieces should you need them.

Welcome again!!!!
