Default VTX in the corners.

Hi there, first let me say that this is a great place to get info and also to meet people like myself and i hope that it stays that way for a long time to come. I just gave my Sabre to the wife and i got me a VTX 1300 C and i notice that i am hitting the pegs in the corners. I have little extanders under my pegs and that is what hits in the corners and i was wuonderring if i can grind these down without the bike folling over. Any help would be helpful. Thanks Dave.

Welcome...

my husband has a VTX 1300 s....and he drags his floorboard too quite often without even leaning very much. Seems to me the VTX does hit long before I do on my C50.

I looked for "extenders"..but couldnt figure out what you meant?

Under his footboards are small knobs that have been hitting the road and are scarred....is that what you meant? I think that would be called a telltale....and they are obviously what hits.

I dont think you would want to grind those off because then the whole outer footboard edge would hit the asphalt with a lot more drag... and that might dig in and upset your line rather than just give you a warning....?

Annie

aren't those replaceable? i mean the peg-feelers / extenders / knobs. they likely are. your floorboards likely fold up, so they'd let you know that you're pushing over quite a bit, and they do tell you that the next thing that's gonna grind on the pavement is gonna be chrome, leather, or shoei.

First let ME say that I am NOT critisizing your riding technique.

Just throwing this out there to think about. Many (too many) years ago, I started scraping the pegs in corners where it never should have happened. After scratching my head for a few weeks, I realized that I had somehow gotten into the habit of not leaning my body into the turns at all.....or very little. As a result, the bike was leaning MORE to achieve the right center of gravity for the turn.

Don't know how or why I picked up that bad habit (after riding for almost 20 years) but I had to consciously re-train myself to shift MY weight first; then of course, the bike didn't lean nearly as much.

P.S. You might find that those little things that scrape first are dome-topped nuts that hold the peg/floor board together!!

Replace them with Magnesium, and allow your friends to ride behind you at night!

One hell of a fireworks show!

LOL.... uh, yeah sure...

PS.. I have noticed small differences between franks VTX and my C50.
His turn signal cancel button sticks all the time... not nearly as reliable as mine.
His is cold starting compared to mine(VTX is carburetted vs FI)...
His stock seat is much better than mine...
He can get away from me....! LOL

Thanks to all for the help. First let me say that i do not have floor boards but foot pegs and on the outher part of the peg there is something like a one and a half inch bolt that hangs down and that is what hits the pave in the corners. I have went way behond that with my 06 Sabre and never hit in the corners but the Honda people tell me that i can grid these down if i feel that the bike will go more. An it will.

sounds like just the peg 'feelers' on the bottom.

how about... don't lean so much cuz it's a cruiser?
