| Hey all, I just recently found this forum from a yahoo search cause I need some questions awnsered! How much insurance is in other states and provinces, in Manitoba for a 250cc Motorcycle it's going to cost me around $2100cdn for a year. My Mcourse is coming up on wednesday&friday. I'm really excited and nervous that I finally get to take the course. What can I expect from the Mcourse and is it possible to fail? I've been told that you can fail the course but I'm confused on what it's suposed to teach you if you know the basics of motorcycling. Any insight is apperciated! ^_^ |

| ... ![]() | 2100 for a 250cc is STUPID high. go find another company. what kind of bike is this? how old are you? what level of insurance is this (liab or comp)? course should teach you proper technique, and might have other benefits in your province like waiving the provincial road test, or making graduated licensing easier, or insurance discounts. or you'll just get a sticker. |

| The bike is a hyosung gt250R. I am 19 years old and in manitoba we only have autopac which is public insurance, Insurance Rate Calculator - Vehicle Type Selection this is what i used to calculate how much it would cost. I really hope i get an insurance discount cause I have no other choice but to pay the 2100 for the insurance. thanks for the welcomes |

| ... ![]() | aren't there places like state farm or allstate or whatever that will insure you??? i'm with state farm in ottawa (ontario) on my 900cc sportbike and it's under $1k per year and i've only been licensed since feb of this year (though i'm 32, so that probably gets me some discount). there's gotta be more than one place that offers insurance. it's possible to fail the course, but that would take some significant foul-ups during the testing portion. if it's anything like what we have here in ontario, 1.5 days were practice exercises and whatnot, and the last 2 hours on the second day were the actual test - failing would require dropping the bike, or something equally nasty. if you've ridden a bicycle, it's not THAT much different - part of the fun is that you don't need to pedal! you still gotta balance, control your brakes, wiggle your way around the obstacles, etc. you probably already know how to do some of those things to a certain extent. the only thing that i found hard was low-speed balancing, and i STILL suck at it. did you already buy the bike, or put down a deposit on it? |

| Thanks for the info! I'll have to ask around if there's any other places to get insurance but i'm pretty sure there's just autopac. I haven't bought anything yet. I really just want to pass the course then follow up with the proper equipment, helmet and bike. I chose the 8 hour course and my friend at a bmw dealer said his brother took the course 3 times and said they'll fail you if you put your feet on the ground when you're doing a figure 8 at walking speed. ^ what I'm scared of! |

| Cool bike and excellent choice. Please post some pic's.!Yeah, we get brutalized with the insurance rates here and unfortunately your bike will probably be classified as a sport bike and those bikes have a higher rate than cruisers. Hopefully you will get a discount for having some merits on your drivers license. You can fail if you drop your bike 3 times and there is a timed stop and go test at the end to get your beginners license. If you pass there is another test to get half of your course fee back. I was nervous too at first but you will slowly gain your confidence as they take you step by step through the basics. There will be a lot of info. to absorb but the instructors were great, so just remember to learn and have fun. I took the course a couple of years ago and it was the 20 hr. course. I thought the 8 hr. course was the refresher course or for people who took the 20 hr. course but failed the final test. So they got the option to do the 8 hr. course only and to do try the final test again. Anyways good luck with your course.

| ... ![]() | try to find a bike that actually goes into neutral with the motor running. the one i was stuck with absolutely REFUSED to slip into N unless the motor was off, so my clutch hand got really tired after a while. i ended up shutting the bike down when i was waiting, then firing it up to ride, then shut down again. not fun!

Find a good bike. The first bike I got it would stall if I didn't constantly twist the throttle, even with the clutch all the way in I had to keep it revved. It makes it hard to concentrate on your riding form when your hands are numb. Finally got one that would idle properly and it felt a lot more comfortable to ride.I believe they have Kawi Eliminator 125's and Buells. I guess you probably want to go with the Buell since you're getting a sport bike but you could always try what the cruiser feels like.

| Apparently I missed the email I got when I registered the course. I needed a Helmet which has DOT or SNELL approved. Gloves, Boots that cover ankles, Denim/Leather jacket, Denim/Sturdy pants, Eye protection. I re-scheduled the course so I go in July now. I need to have all the gear cause they only provide the bikes. Which I thought they did provide gear, I assumed completely wrong. So depressing, I wish I would have read the email for it. Now I have to buy all the gear, can anyone recommend me some good helmets/gloves/boots? I think I can find the jacket, pants and eye protection. |

| Doh! Didn't they send you anything through the mail too? I recommend the 21 hr. course. Safety Services Manitoba - Course Registration For gear check out J&M Cycle on Main St.. They have a sale on right now on gloves, jackets, helmets etc.. Also you can go to Canadian Motorcycle also on Main St. They have a good selection of half helmets and full face helmets at good prices. For the course you probably don't need anything too fancy. A denim jacket, jeans, sunglasses and any boot that cover the ankles would be good enough. There was a guy at my course guys who just wore leather gloves he picked up at Mark's Work Warehouse.

| Great decision! I got a Joe Rocket Rio mesh jacket 2xl and Razor gloves L that I was thinking of selling. PM me for pic's if you're interested. This is a great Forum. You'll learn a lot from motorcyclists with tons of experience here. Fill out your profile and stick around.
