Hello all...new to the forum and new to riding. I have been looking at the Suzuki C50C and the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic. Any suggestions for a first bike? One major difference that I have noticed is the shaft vs belt drives...not sure how much maintenance on each or what is recommended for a first-timer. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

use the search feature for "new rider" or "first bike" and be prepared to read!

Good luck in your decision.

either of these 2 bikes should be fine for a starter, I and most others would recommend that you look into taking a safety course, being a new rider, you will find it very helpful.

from those two, i always preferred the vulcan 900. bigger engine, belt drive (more power to the wheel and less maintenance), rear disc brake, bigger fuel tank. plus the styling of the custom and the blue colour was REALLY sweet.

generic observation - there's a TON of new bikers recently! i was at my local DMV and there's a sign that they're out of stock on motorbike plates and won't have more until the end of the week. wow!!! looks like everyone and their chicken is buying a bike.

Thanks for the advice, I am actually taking the safety course in a couple of weeks. I also thought about the Custom 900 but am a little weary of the "skinny" front wheel.

from what i've read, it actually gives you better steering control and feedback than the fatty-fat-fat on most cruisers.

nice feature of (i think) ALL suzuki bikes, though, is the 'PASS' button on the left control pod that flashes the high-beams. kawi doesn't have it but i think yamaha does on some of their bikes.
