Default Honda shadow 750Aero

because its carburated does it make it harder to maintain? and does it really matter all that much if the bike is air or liquid cooled if I'm not planning on sitting in trafic?

You might have to get the carb adjusted once every few years, but that's about it, I'd expect. My old Magna had 4 carbs, and I never touched them in the 9 years I owned it.

Fuel injection is easier to use, obviously, but my wife's 750 Aero started immediately when I took it out of winter storage (on a 25 degree day, no less!). Some would say carburation is an advantage because the FI will tend to be all-or-nothing. If something goes wrong in the carb, you have a chance to get it home or to the shop.

i was just thinking - how long before bikes follow the cars when it comes to OBD and crap like that? or do they already have that on them? from what i recall, tweaking a car with an OBD system is a real PITA, since it has a habbit of undoing your performance mods. carbs are more complex mechanically, but they're all mechanical, so you can just get in there with a wrench or something and tweak it. the flip side is that if you have a way of tweaking EFI, it's HUGELY more flexible - but you need a proper setup to do it all.

as far as air versus liquid cooling? same deal - air is simpler to make and has less crap to go wrong, but liquid is technically better for performance.

I agree that the liquid cooling is more advances but is it really better? My C50 is a hell of and engine. That said if I want to modify it I am stuck with in the parameters of the designer. If I want to build in any extra horse power I am stuck with a cooling system that is just right for 53.2 HP. Any more power and I will cook it thermally or give it fits. Yamaha and HD on the other hand with their air cooled units can handle the higher HP and that why there are so many mods for them that give real power. And both companys catoluges have the kits to make tons of power. Cooling is just not and issue with a air cooled engine unless you are tied up in traffic and there are ways around that too! Just my .02 worth.

ya, air cooling has the advantage of easier overboring of cylinders since there's no water jackets to run into.
