Default Greetings from where the earth is flat!

After being without a bike for over a year, I picked up a new Suzuki S40 in April. I live in the northern part of Indiana where curves and hills are fairly rare. As a transplanted Iowan, it has taken some adjustment. I can say that the sunrises and sunsets are incredible with the flat terrain.

My previous bike was a Honda 600 VLX. Compared with the VLX, the Suzuki is much more fun! The 4 speed Honda was a challenge... took forever to warm up and overall performance was not what I had hoped for.

Wishing all a great day!

You betcha there's hills in Iowa! I grew up in the Southern part of the state, near the Missouri border. There are some nice areas along the Eastern part of the state along the Mississippi River.

Hey PhotoProf,
come to southern Indiana (Brown co state park and further south-The clark state forest). We have hills and curves down here.

Hey Dave...

You don't have to convince me. We were coming back from Kentucky via car and got off the I-64 around Corydon and took the back roads to Brown County... I've got notes on my Atlas that there are some nice curves! We like the Columbus area (incredible architecture) quite a bit and enjoy going down for just a short weekend away... besides the outlet mall is a favorite with my wife.

Hey PhotoProf, if you took back roads to Brown co from Corydon, you went past, drove over my riding roads. I live about 15 miles east of Salem and cruise over those roads every chance I get.

Yes, there are some rolling hills in IOWA. By the river, near the slaughterhouse in Dubuque. Most of the rest of IOWA, not much to write home about. Unless you drive by the river, then it's okay.

btw, welcome aboard Photoprof.

.......and the VLX 600 didn't impress you? I thought that it was basically a detuned performance motor. Unless you simply didn't wind it up to get the power out (I believe the hp peak is within 2 grand of redline).

Cool Honda Shadow 600 VLX ??

Hey Jim...

The Shadow 600 VLX sure didn't seem like even a de-tuned performance motor. It was a small V-Twin that seemed mismatched to the transmission. Of the bikes I have owned, this one was a real disappointment. Bang for the buck, the S-40 sure seems like the real deal. I think it would eat the Shadow alive (at least off the line).

You have some nice scenery in Wisconsin... Devil's Lake etc. I bought a 350 Honda CB at Stark's Sport Shop in Prairie du Chein, WI in the early 70's... fond memories.

Have a great week!

Photoprof, you didn't buy that cb 350 new did you? I've heard they ran about $1350 new, pretty expensive when a new car could be had for $3500.

Cool 350 Honda...

Omegajim...

I may have gotten the suffix letters wrong but I believe the CB was just the twin, not the four cylinder 350. To be sure, I did not pay big bucks for it... if memory serves me correct, it was about $550.00 OTD.

Have a good day

Cool Firedog move

Firedog...

What brings you to Indiana and what part of the state are you moving to if you don't mind me asking. If I remember correctly, Coralville is near Iowa City (go Hawks).

Your information bar may indicate this but I didn't notice... what kind of bike are you riding?

Have a good one!
