Talking Very excited, I get my M50 in a week!!

Hello all:
I am new member, and I am excited, I bought my M50 on Friday and Pick it up later in the week. I haven't ridden a bike since I was a teen so I am a little nervous, since to get the bike home it is over a 1 hour first ride.
I should be ok.
By the wa it is black and did I say I was excited!

CONGRATS!
The M50 is a good looking machine.

Since it's been approx 20 yrs since you last rode (did the math myself ) you may want to consider having the dealer deliver the bike rather than taking that 1 hr ride. Dealers in some areas will deliver the bike for free. If you're buying from a private party, maybe you can trailer the bike home yourself.

The MSF is probably a good idea because of the long lay off too.

Either way, I wouldn't recommend riding the bike home if you're rusty on 2 wheels. Better to get the bike and you home together safely, then practice away from traffic and busy streets until you shake the rust off.

Enjoy the bike!!

Poe-boy:
Thanks for the recommendation. I do have the safety course booked for mid April, looking forward to that.
As for getting the bike home, the dealer has offered to hold on to it until I have completed the course.

And to all, thanks for the welcome, I have been reading this forum for months now, and it has been a great help in comfirming my selection of bike.

Brent

my course is april 13-15 and yeah i'm lookin' forward to that too since a few days after i can flip my M1 to an M2. gonna take the ZX-9R (the anti-newb bike!) for some mild rides before the course, staying on the residential streets here just to get the hang of things - prolly keep it in first gear and just go back-n-forth plus a loop around the street here (like, 500m at most)

Congrats on the new bike. Ride it home. Unless you feel real nervous or something, I can't imagine getting a nice new bike and not riding it home. This MSF stuff is good and all, but I'm sure there are at least a couple riders out there that can at least get home without it. Take it easy and ride your new bike home. You'll feel more comfortable on it when you take the course.

to the forum Burnt.
Great choice in ride. Good to hear you're booked for the safety course.
There are a lot of factors that we don't know regarding your ride home...ie traffic volume etc. You know your abilities and circumstances. Think it through, and I'm sure you'll make the right choice.

We've seen record amounts of rain here this past month. Finally saw a fantastic day of sun. Rode in to work tonight with a smile on my face. You're going to love this bike. Enjoy...and keep us posted.

Welcome! I love your choice, fastest color too!!!

I know exactly what you are going through. I had not been on a bike for 10 years when I picked mine up. I was nervouse, but the M50 is a very forgiving ride and everything came back very quickly. Enjoy!

Welcome-

I was a realativly new rider when I got my M50-traded a S40 for it (had been riding less than a year), and was nervous riding the M home-so I spent some time practicing in the parking lot and around some back streets before I hit the freeway for the 45 min ride home.

Well the ride home was great!!! 2.5 hrs for my first ride to get the bike home. My wife followed with the kids, she's the best!
No problems stayed to the back roads and enjoyed my ride
This is the first time riding the M50, I had pickout the bike but never taken one for a ride until after I paid for it. I am really happy with the choice and checking this forum really helped solidify my choice. I had actualy decided that this is the bike I wanted when it first came out in 2005. I had been on and off the forum for the past two years until I finally decided to just do it.

Any thanks eveyone!

GregR1
Thanks, I think so too
Still with the M1, my bike safety course is not until the weekend of the 21 and 22nd.
When that is done the earliest I move to the M2 is May 15th.

i still haven't taken any pics of my bike. all i have is what the dealer took when they had it posted for sale.

how's your riding weather? up here, it's hovering around 0C, overcast with the occasional snowflakes flying around, and still tons of sand and fine gravel on the roads for that extra bit of challenge i need with my all-powerful M1. i was evil enough to get my M1 early enough that i can flip it to an M2 just a week after the course. i should be at M2 by the 24th of this month.
