Default Hello Bike Fans.

Hi Everyone. I'm from Melbourne, Australia.

I've always been into bikes. I first rode a motorcycle 2 years ago in Taiwan (it was a scooter). And since then I have been a fan of bikes.

Tomorrow I will be getting my Learners Permit (wow).

From this forum I would like to learn more about riding skills as well as getting an idea of what will be my first bike. I love the cruisers, however I also love the head down sports bikes.

Its a tough choice.

G'day!

I've never been down under, but your choice of bike should reflect (in some respects) the type of riding you'll be doing. If you are riding mostly flat, straight roads, a cruiser will definitely be fine. If you have lots of twisty hills and valley roads, you might find that a more "sporty" bike (e.g. Suzuki SV650, Honda CBF600, etc.) may be more suitable.

G'Day.. I got my learners permit yesterday. So exciting..

During the practice run before the test, I made a very silly mistake. While turning a corner I went to wide and tried to correct it, and used the front breaks. Then suddenly, CRASH!!!! I stacked the bike... It bloodly hurts.. my palms, elbow, left knee and left hip had gravel rash all over.

Helmet was my only proper gear. I was also wearing gloves (fabric), long sleeve shirt and jeans. Now, I've learnt that its really important to wear to proper gear to protect your skin. I was really lucky to crash in a controlled invironment where instructors quickly came to my aid.

Then last night my friend let me ride on his CBRR250. He also let me wear his riding gear. It was an awsome bike. Very responsive and easy bike to learn on.

I'm starting to like riding very much.

Some lessons you learn the easy way, some the hard way. There are more than a few good books out there, but they mean a lot more after you've been driving awhile so you can relate and appreciate the points made.

Keep working at it, you'll get there, heck I did and I don't even have a particularly good sense of balance.
