I took the Basic MSF Course a month ago, and plan to take the Expert class once I have maybe 6 months under my belt!
I would like to take the refresher course, it was cool riding such little (125cc Kawa's) bikes, helped get over the initial fear.
I plan to have my wife take the course soon.

Took it in September last year and I'm signed up for a refresher in September this year. I plan to take the Advanced Rider Training once I have 10k miles under my belt which should be before next summer.

The first and only Motorcycle Safety course I took was back in April, 2005, which enabled me to get my license faster than on my own. Since then, had not taken a refresher course (too expensive for me right now), need to keep all the small change I'm earning right now...

I have rode my bike to work upon the occasion of the drier days, when I can. Today, one of my coworkers approached me about riding. He has never rode, but saw my C90 in the lot. He was really interested in learning to ride (40 years old) so I took the opportunity to tell him about the class. I think he is signing up tonite! Its perfect for those to learn if they are really interested in riding without costing too much!

I took the course in 1984 at the Great Lakes Naval Training Base north of Chicago. I had to in order to be allowed to ride on base. I took it on my '82 Suzuki GS850. It was a great course. We did a "slowest speed race", and I remember I won that a couple times. I even beat the instructor. Fun stuff. I keep meaning to take an experienced course, but haven't taken the time yet.

I just completed it two weeks ago, basic course. I hadnt riden in about 15 years so the course was great. You never forget the basics but the details are another story.

Poll needs one other selection.

Yes, I took the MSF but I'm a newbie.

That would be an appropriate choice...

MSF in Texas says stats show every other year. You are safest after the course, get confident over the next 18 months, then get too smart for your own good. I think it's a good philosophy.

I think I saw somewhere that they say most accidents happen in the 2-3 year range, then tapper off. I guess once you hear enough horror stories, you get back to doing it right? That, or maybe you should avoid riding during year 2 & 3?? ;o)

Did not vote since none of the options fit.

I took the Idaho STAR course last year. Not MSF-sponsored, but from what I understand about the curriculum, pretty much exactly the same thing.

Hm... we don't have the MSF courses here per se but to get the small bike license (up to 125cc) I took 28 hours of classes (includes simulator class). Then in order to step up to mid-size license (up to 400cc) I took 10 hours, and another 20 hours to step up to big license (no limit in engine size). So thats 58 hours BEFORE I even got on open roads!!

Jeez. I never counted the hours.

Then AFTER I started riding, I still go to private riding schools roughly once a month, cuz some months there are no courses and some months I go to two. These don't go by the hours but these are full day courses. Starts at 9pm and finishes around 5pm and we get one hour break for lunch and several breaks in between. I can't even count how many I've attended.

These courses usually teach you things like pyron slaloms, U-turns, low speed maneuvers, emergency stops.... It make you capable of twisting and turning your bikes even at relatively low speed. This is VERY important to me since I cannot "push" the bike with my feet down and MUST rely on throttle, brake and clutch control to move the bike. Otherwise, I have to get off and just push (which I'd rather like to avoid cuz these things are HEAVY!)

Then there's the Track Riding Schools. These are also full day courses but takes place in race tracks and they teach you specifically track riding, which is quite different from learning to maneuver bikes. Here they teach you high speed riding, the whole point being how to ride the track faster. These take place once every two months.

In fact, I LOVE these courses. They are so fun!!
AND if they make you a better rider, great!

So how many hours of schools have I been going to????

Took the course last weekend in April of this year, had never been on a bike before so it helped me get over the initial apprehension of getting on a bike for the first time at 40 yrs young...I would recommend to everyone considering riding to take the course, but I found I was able to learn all the classroom material through the internet just as easily...The riding was where I found it a little disappointing...The exercises where good, for familiarizing a person with some bike basics...But more real life would have been beneficial...In my MSF class there was only one time we made it past 2nd gear into third...In the 3000+ miles I've put on in the last 3 months none of it was traveling at those low speeds, I had a whole other self taught class I had to take about riding on the roads at highway speeds...some training in that would have been nice as well...

Default Not enough choices on this poll

I just finished up the RidersEdge version of the MSF BRC on Monday 8/6, and my wife finished it yesterday. The poll doesn't have an option for just "yes".

I took the MSF a couple months ago before i got my bike. I've been riding dirt bikes and bikes of friends for a long time, but it just seem like the most logical thing to do
