I don't care...I'll always wear my helmet, so if there is a helmet law, it won't really affect me.

FYI, in MN there is not a helmet law (only for permitted riders)

Helmets are mandatory for everyone here. I think it makes sense.

I don't care. i wear mine all the time no matter what.

the way i look at it is:

it's the riders decision to wear one or not. it's like the seat belt law up here in Maine. you have to wear it or you'll get a ticket. now in Maine you do not have to wear a helmet. after your 1st year of having your license. where do those 2 law's make sense!!?!! there both kinda condricting each other!!!

No helmet law in IL, but I'm still pro-helmet law.

Pro-Helmet
Same thing down in Conn and Rhode Island they have a strict seat belt law but have no helmet law. When friends and I take off to go for a ride there are times we wander into NH or down into Conn and it's instant pull over I want to take my helmet off but I can't stand the feeling off the wind in my hair while on a bike. Full face for me, plus if you happen to have the bad luck of getting into an accident in another state that allows you to not wear a helmet Massachusetts insurances companies do not have to pay for anything because you are still under Massachusetts helmet laws. It's up to you if you want to take the chance though, and even some accidents with a person or persons that do wear helmets are some times fatal they give you that little extra protection not guarenteed.

You guys and your "Darwinism" I think helmets should be required by law. For the simple reason that I have heard on this forum and have witnessed in my life that the 16-25 (and up) demographic frequently lack common sense. this doesn't mean that they will not gain common sense in the future, so why shouldn't we make them protect their brain until it is fully developed? I bet there would be a lot of wasted lives if we didn't keep an eye out for the testosterone laden young men out there.

Sorry Mark, I know you said no discussions, but no one else listened....

[sorry mark]

There is a similar discussion on MotoTreff (the Swiss forum I am involved with) if they should introduce a full-gear law here. We have a helmet law, but still have alot of injuries because of people riding with brain-caps (instead of a full-face) and no other protective gear.

The opinion over here is pretty much the same - you can't regulate common sense. Making laws doesn't force anyone to wear riding gear / helmets / seatbelts / whatever, it just gives the police more probable cause if and when they feel like checking.

If someone thinks that he is superman and doesn't need to wear protective gear because he knows he isn't going to have an accident (Paladin?), no law is going to change his mind. He may throw a non-certified brain-cap over his head just to appease the police, but it won't protect him when reality strikes.

In this case, it may sound cold-hearted, but I can't think of any other name for it: Darwinism.

I say it's up to you whether you wear a helmet or not. If people don't want to wear a helmet and tempt fate let them.

I always wear a helmet.

I don't like the law telling me I have to wear it. Some of us can actually reason things out on our own.

No dscussion Meatman? on this topic? Right!

The law is not telling you to wear one since you already do. Stop thinking of yourselves and think of your sons and daughters that don't do the right thing all of the time. Sure you can teach your kids to wear a helmet but who's to say they won't take it off around the corner? It also sends the message like we always do here that maybe it's a good idea. "If it's not against the law, then it can't be THAT important."

Fight the laws that infringe on your rights, not the ones that protect you.

It's pretty interesting how the results look so far...pretty much divided equally between all three choices! Probably why those helmet thread discussion threads last so long!!!!!!

. . . and why I asked for no comments here . . . to avoid yet another conflict among the open-skull vs. closed-skull crowd.

Carry on . . .
