Depends on the size of the potholes as to how fast I go.

OK, I'll be honest. (Now do I get fired as a mod?)

In regular streets, I go with the traffic flow. It's a LOT more dangerous to try to stick to speed limits if the traffic in general is going faster.

On highways, it's a different story. Less cars, wider lanes, more distance to travel....and the awesome feeling of becoming part of the wind! (OK, did I say that?)

But to Clint's point......I do have a racing license for both cagers and bikes......
(Yeah, I'm making an excuse. )

I go with whatever fits the mood of the moment.

No I don't do a hundred in a school zone, but it's routinely some number over the posted limit, but not in excess of sanity, or better yet, not in excess of what the current situation of potential hazards dictates.

Usualy ride with the flow which tends to be 10 over posted limit.
Though at the moment I am a bit on the paranoid side as i have just picked up 3 points with a £60 fine for being 8 over the limit (30) . ONE of those mobile speed cameras in a van, So at this point in time am being good .

Speeding over here is not really an option.

Switzerland has HIGHLY monitored roads, with permanent digital cameras and mobile radar units. There are roads where you can ride 10 kmh over the limit without too much chance of being photographed, but this is only on lonely country roads between towns. In the city or on the Autobahn, it's just not worth it to speed - the traffic fines get very expensive, and a suspended license is just a twist of the wrist away.

On the other side of the Rhine, there are some nice stretches of Autobahn, but to be honest, riding really fast in a straight line gets old really quickly. I prefer being up in the twisties, where speed is unimportant - I enjoy the technical challenge of riding, trying to perfect my line, etc.

Traffic Flow? What traffic? My daily commute is about 25 miles each way, and it's all backroads Indiana, so I don't have traffic to flow with. Most of these roads don't have a 'posted' speed limit, just an assumed speed limit of 50mph. Rarely go that slow on the bike, except for the fall season when the deer are running around a lot. Even when I do tak a state highway home (or at least in the general direction of home), I usually exceed the 55mph speed limit, not because of traffic flow, but because I want to.

In all honesty:

In my trucks I rarely get over 60 mph. If I'm on a 40 mph road, I'll probably run 10 over. 55 mph road, I usually run 57-59 mph. I drive mostly in teh right-hand lane.

On my bikes, I ride out in the country and I try to haul buggy. I make my best attempts to ride like a whipped ape every weekend. If I get ticketed, I'll pay. Until then, I'm going to keep acting a fool. That's actually the reason I own a motorcycle.

Scout's honor.

I do tend to drive fast...but only because my vision is so bad.

This would only be funny if it were a joke.

Yes, but at least here, a lot of people who ride motorcycles get the most fun out of "riding fast" in the twisties. Of course, to do that, they need to perfect the line, etc., and the question is always "how can I ride faster".

Of course, this does result in a lot of motorcycle accidents that don't involve any cagers.

You're Canadian. You don't have a fifth or shall we say "it doesn't apply"

BTW, I've yet to meet a GUY who doesn't think he is an above-average driver or rider.

While driving to dinner last night, my friends and their wives kept commenting on how slow I was driving, and I kept telling them I was going fast enough and everyone else on the road was speeding and that's the problem. Then I looked at my speedometer, damn, I was doing 60 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Ok, I'm slow.

i live in LA cali, if you do the speed limit your going to get hit from behind because you are going to slow. i know i shouldn't and i kno everyone is saying because i have a 1000, but i noticed on the freeway i average 73 to 82 just to stay with the traffic. now rush hour i will only go 5 to 10 miles faster than they are. and always keep my eyes focusing everywhere. its funny police pull over people for quick lane changing, then they will add on the fact you are speeding. are law is stay with the flow of traffic! Now in my car slow and easy, save gas!
