I'm quite surprised there aren't more v-4's aren't suzuki c50's v-4s?

I have an M50, which is a V twin. My highest mileage bike was a 750 ninja, but I've gone the farthest from home on a Ducati ST3s. They're all fun!

My wife and I took a CB350 Honda from LA to Ensenada, Baja California in the 1970's. We had a windshield and no fear. It was great fun, but we wouldn't do it again.

I was reading that the V-4 isn't used much in bikes because it is expensive to produce. An inline-4 has 1 or 2 camshafts to operate all of the valves. A v-twin can use rocker arms or simple camshafts. A V-4 requires more parts to operate all of the valves. Plus there is the issue of heat, since you have to cool both rear cylinders, along with the front ones. Again, more complex cooling and weight of the coolant.

Sure, there are some V-4's out there (Honda VFR comes to mind). But bike manufacturers, like every other industry, generally try to keep manufacturing costs down, and a V-4 engine is simply more expensive than an inline-4 or V-2.

Since my M50 is my first and only bike my answer was easy (V-twin). Although I have spent some time on an I4 and parallel twins

No, they are V-twins. Yamaha makes a V-4 cruiser. The Venture.

I am currently ridding an i-4. My favorite bike ever was a v-twin sportbike. It was stolen last Nov. I plan on getting another twin.
