Why should you drive differently on a bike than in your car
someone coming into your lane is someone coming into your lane no mater what your driving

(Title of thread) That cager just Drove into My Lane. (First question in thread) Whats the difference in how you react, driving your car and riding a bike,
Sorry, I thought this thread was about how one would react if a car came into my lane how I would react. I gress I got that from the title. I did however fail to say just how I would have reacted if in a car or a truck.
So to answer the question, I don't drive any different no mater what I'm driving. I think that riding a bike has actually helped my car/truck driving. Someone that demands their rights on the road will either die or kill someone before its over.
BTW, I never use my horn in the car or truck either.
Jim

This happens to me quite a bit. For some reason, it seems that people now believe if their lane is obstructed in some way, they have the right to take the oncoming lane. In the truck, I have no recoarse but to hit the brakes and horn and head for the woods. A few times I've had to pull to the left and stop in front of the obstruction/parked car to avoid a head on collision.

On the bike, it seems a lot of people don't see me or they believe I should move to the white line and give them the room they need. Luckily, I don't have anger issues like I did when I was younger. I don't even have the desire to kick their door or quarter panels anymore.

My latest pet peave are drivers merging onto the highway. You know, the ones who believe if they don't look over, it's your responsibility to slow down or move to let them merge.

My horn is in a fairly bad spot. The few times I have gone for it I only turned on the blinker especially when wearing my winter gloves. So now I watch my mirrors for approaching traffic and try to stay ahead. It is my rule to never let a car next to me. Either back off or gun it.

They do too use mirrors VANITY MIRRORS so they can put on make up, check the hair, make sure nothing is stuck in the teeth, etc.

My whole point in this poll was to see how many are thinking
I dont feel it should matter if your on your bike or in your cage
driving is driving

so many bikers say loud pipes saves them
and the funny part is loud pipes was next to the least used answer

To me the poll shows good thinking and self-defence driving is doin the saving

Defensive driving will help ya live a lot longer than hitting the horn. You have a good rule there.

I would love to answer this one, but alas I am not able to. This is because several of the answers are correct.

It would greatly depend on the position I am in when the car started over. If I were more towards the back of the car, then I would honk the horn and hit the brakes. If I were more towards the front of the car, I would just speed up. If I am in the middle of the car, then I just knock on the drivers window and ask them to wait for me to move before they try and run me over.

me hitting the horn is pure instinct. i know exactly where it is (very near my left thumb) and just go for it. i am always watching my mirrors, i cannot recall the last time i 'went looking for a way out'. whether in my hobby tuner car or on my now daily driver bike.

if you don't know, immediately, where your 'out' is, then you are only barely more awake than the driver that is about to run you over.

i was 100 miles away from home last Friday, with steady 30mph cross winds, gusting to 50+ and there was not one time on that ride that i got anywhere close to a panic situation, even with Ford Exploders and minivans getting pushed well into my lane. tractor trailers swerving around in the next lane beyond traffic. (yes, i took the left). i liken riding a motorcycle on the streets to take just as much focus and foresight to do so safely as driving on an unknown road with 4 inches of snow on it, a blizzard coming down and your summer tires are almost bald.
