Default Good full face helmet?

Hey guys. I posted on here a while back when I thought I might get a bike. Didn't pan out. Now that I have some cash behind me its looking like a real possibility.

My friend has been teaching me how to ride on his sv650 and I have to say, its the most fun I've ever had. The bike is a great fit and I'm looking at getting one.

My question is about helmets. I keep seeing reviews on how noisy, or how light a certain helmet is, but I never see a review based on the QUALITY of the helmet. I love my beautiful head and don't want anything bad to happen to it, so I want to splurge and get the safest helmet I can.

Is there a certain brand/model that offers all-around better protection? Or are most helmets the same and I should just look for the one that fits best and is most comfortable while still having a DOT and SNELL rating?

By the way, can someone explain the difference between DOT and SNELL? I've heard that if it has a SNELL rating, that's better than just having a DOT. Can someone clarify?

Thanks guys.
