Erin..I have a Shoei RF1000 I got it from a place called Cycle Gear.com They have brick and mortar stores throughout the country. They also have online stores and eBay sales. I picked up my Shoei through their "distressed" equipment sale for $120. (They leave helmets out in the showrooms.) I figured for that price delivered and what it cost to have it examined locally for cracks for almost nothing..it was worth a gamble. They stated it was scratched up. However, when I received it, the only "scratches" were glue boogers from the factory stickers that had turned black after someone pulled them off, and left the helmet on the demo shelf. So there it was. Brand new Shoei RF1000 for $120. |

I have a EXO 700 Scorpion, Love it, flows nicely, easy visor changes. Son has a HJC CL-15 ( Picked up from Newenough.com ) no issues with it, Personally, didn't like the fit of the HJC I tried on, scorpion was alot more comfortable.

the thing is, not all dealers hold all helmets... go to every dealer you can find and try them ALL on... forget what they look like... i wear a XS AGV, a Small HJC, and i tried on an HJC symaxII which was medium, and the scorpion 1000 was a large. most important thing of all... find one that fits your noggin... search all the stores... then when you find one that fits... look online for a better deal check this page for useful info... we all have different shape and sizes of head... I can tell you the Scorpions run smaller than the HJC's do. I had an HJC and my brother-in-law has a Scorpion. They were both the same size as far as what was printed on the tab, but there was no way they were actually the same size, I couldn't have squeezed my head into his with a tub of crisco!

| women... always about size, isn't it Quote:
i know the scorpions (at least the 1000) have an airbag system which could be the difference... i had a hard time squeezing my head in the scorpion, but once on, felt the same size (hjc was med, the scorp was large) it's much tighter at the neckline... the sales chick (was hot) said that's why the scorpion was better at keeping wind noise at bay...

Okay, here's a question and I hate to ask it only because of all the ADD that's prevalent on these forums You just know they have to comment on it. But here it goes ...... What can I use a dry graphite lubricant on the bike for? and can this be used on the helmet as well? .... geez

| I can't think of anything....well maybe any keylocks that are NOT the ignition switch. Certainly NOT the helmet and not anything electrical. I personally don't like the stuff for anything......because I have always found something better.....and it is messy.

I have a Nolan 102 N-Com which is one of the quietest helmets I've worn but still I wear ear plugs when out on the highway. On any helmet wind noise at 70 mph can cause hearing loss. Protect it while you have it.

I wore a CL-15 for several rides last summer. It is a decent helmet if your looking for DOT/Snell certification and will give you a good amount of ventilation. I found the visor to fog up pretty quick and a bit tricky to open sometimes. Noise-wise it gets a D- For the price it's worth it - a good passenger / backup helmet. If you can save enough $ - go with the RF-1000 like you were mentioning. Noise is a big factor for me (musician) and I had been searching for a lid that would be ultra quiet for a long time before I decided on the RF. The RF-1000 is the quietest helmet I've tried worn that's under $500. (solid colors). Most of what I noticed was due the a fairly big gap at the top of the shield when it is closed. I "fixed" that with a length of stick-on foam rubber weather strip. Made a BIG difference. That may have cut down on the ventiallation a bit but still adequate. I crack the visor a bit in town when it's real hot.

But in all fairness, I've worn my sister's Shoei RF-1000 and liked it a lot. And in all double fairness, that was only as a passenger. I don't know how to ride yet, and therefore haven't been able to test the RF-1000 out as a rider. When the money starts rolling in I hope to be able to rectify that.
