Default How good is Mladin really?

I've heard some arguments on other forums about this. I know a lot of people don't care for the guy but you cannot argue with his riding skills and his ability to make a bike work. He has surrounded himself with an out standing team that knows how to win.
I myself am not a huge fan of the man but I do feel he is the best superbike rider in the world and has been for a long time. Actually I think the top 5 ama riders are better than the top 5 wsb riders. Just wondering what you guys think.

It is hard to compare different riders b/c the tracks are different and the bikes, while similar, are different too. Different rules make for different setups.

That being said, Mladin would do quite well in WSB. Probably consistant podiums and wins. He obviously is a great rider and knows that to finish first, first you must finish.

But it is not going to happen. Mat likes racing in the USA. He can be the BMOC and not be too concerned with the other teams. In WSB he would have to work harder for the same results.

Suzuki pays him a lot of money to race here. I've heard more than they pay Corser and he is WSB World Champion.

Some of the WSB riders who have raced in the USA have been concerned about track safety. Walls too close, not enough run off room, etc. They don't wick it up because of the danger.

Yep, agree with you. I know that the AMA guys make more than the WSB guys. I've also read a quote someplace from Hodgson saying if Mladin is in WSB he would win it. But alas it will never happen and I can't blame him for not wanting to go over there.

Consider that Honda and HRC offered him a top ride 2 times in Moto GP. Kenny Roberts Sr had an offer on the table to have Mladin ride his Proton lump. He Qualified a 1:24.9 on a Production based Superbike at Laguna this year which would have put him 15th on the grid for MotoGP! His tallent is without question. Honda and Roberts and others all want him but as was said he has a duaghter he wants to raise in a home not in a mobile home. He is well respected in every circle of motorcycle racing.

I know he has not had an offer for moto gp ride. He did test the Suzuki a couple of years ago but nothing came of it.One other intersting thing he said once that he was physically to large to be competetive in moto gp. I would love to see him take the whole team to WSB.

No "official" offer. It isnt always a cut and dried offer but they do put the feelers out to see if it sparks any interest. Honda wanted him badly.

I didn't believe Mat when he said he was too large for MotoGP then and I don't believe him now.
KRJR is about the same size and he won a Grand Prix title.
Ruben Xaus is not a little guy.
Hell, Rossi is pretty tall, although he is also much thinner than Mat.

Have to agree with you there, Nicky is not tiny either but Pedrosa is like a jockey.I just don't think there is even a ride for him if he wanted it. Especially now that the clean out has began in moto gp with older racers.

Mladin is good, very good.

Nicky Hayden and Kurtis Roberts, when asked about Mladin while they were both competing in motogp, both said that he is a Motogp caliber rider........now that doesnt mean he would beat Rossi........but I think he would finish in the top 10 on a consistant basis in Motogp...may even or podium or 2 in a season

The fact is, MotoGP is the highest caliber Motorcycle racing there is. If he doesn't move to MotoGP, he will never be known as the best.

The worst part is, he seems happy to leave it to speculation and sit in AMA.

I'm waiting to see what happens with the 11 bike. I'm thinking this year Ben might pull some magic. Actually it's more wishful thinking I think. Watching Matt ride is really an experience. I think if he rode in GP it wouldn't be as good as I'd hope. I think the Doctor would still beat the snot out of everybody. Matt has a sweet deal going on now and it wouldn't be a popular choice for him monatarily or for his family or for his fans or Suzuki. I like Ben but I love watching the Suzuki banner in first. Also if he took the Suzuki in GP that would be a huge mistake. Suzuki just doesn't have the machines. He could got to the other guys who have good bikes but then we have Rossi. I think he'd rather be in first at the end of the year. Winners love to keep winning and in AMA he's winning.
