Looks like a slider to me, there is also a yellow one on the rear wheel.

You are correct, thats the frame slider on the front of the bike.. But there's none on the rear wheel. That yellow thing is the rear brake caliper.

So whats the point, is it so the bike slides on that not on the...bike??

Here's a quick pic I found on the net... Notice the slider is grinded down almost to the end. If it hadn't been there, more damage to the bike..
