Thumbs up O2 Zzr

Thanks Guys,The Zed is an 02 model i just traded for in Feb.But due to a simple surgery and my trying to build a Garage for my 65 project i've only put about 600 miles on her. Thanks for the compliments, for the bike has been well taken care of,but recently on a trip back from PigeonForge i had an encounter with a Dog.Kept it upright and unfortunately killed the dog,But the hit did do some damage.I'll post some more pics to show what happen, gotta look close...you'll even see the dog hair.I'm in the process of trying to find someone now who can spray another panel i have to the correct color. My bike is a "galaxy silver" and the other panel is a "moonlight silver". Does this forum have a post section so as to comment where everyone can share their location? Below are What i call DamDog Pics...
OOPS i'll have to use another post to show the pics...can't get my browser to work correctly, gotta restart!

Thumbs up 65 project & DamDog Pics

Greg, the 65 project is my car i;m cloning to a Goat.In early years i used to own a couple of 64 GTO's and i bought this 65 bout 4 years ago and have been stockpiling parts ever since. Plan 4 it to have a 67 400 w/Dueces & 4sp (unless i can spring enough to put in a 6sp.)Posi rear w/3:23 gears. But only now have i begun a garage to use for the build, plus also to do mods to the Zed.I'm gonna post the DamDog Pics & maybe a 65 pic or so. Jus call me an Old Gear Head.

i had started on a '66 AC427 Cobra kit car project. sadly (and stupidy) i started building up the motor and was about to get the chassis kit plus tranny when my high-tech bubble went POP and the money that i was going to use vanished. now i've got a 509cid RAT sitting in storage.

how much power are you likely to get out of that 400cid? you should be able to mate up those Richmond 6sp gearboxes to it - they'll handle around 450hp i think without busting parts.

My projections are only about 400-425 unless i can go to a diff tranny.Yhe posi will be fine because it's a 4pinion unit.I want to concentrate on new tech suspension setup with a few modern pcs.The front brakes will be converyed to disc and if at all possible Tube A-Arms. I'll quicken the steering using a formula bird steer box. I've galvanized the whole frame ( a 66 GTO Frame) that came from a salvage yard. I hope to box the frame to add rigidity. This way i can build almost everything B4 even pulling the body from the xisting frame. If i can swing a 6sp i'd like to up the horses to 450-475.The particuliar(and easy to adapt without mods!) tanny i've seen will give a 1 to 1 ratio for Hwy speeds. good for going to car shows.

i was using a computer engine simulator for my rat, and got it to theoretically push out 650hp / 650ft-lbs. depending on what you've got, 400hp should be easy and 500hp probably also reasonable. last time i was looking at that richmond 6sp it was around $2800 US from Summit Racing. i'm pretty sure there were choices in gear ratios, at least 2 variants. likely the 6th is better than 1:1

Appreciate that Greg.I'd like to have me one of those programs as well, jus not in the budget anytime soon. The Richmonds are nice, though Tremec has me thinking because of adaptability and then there was another, but can't place it at the moment.Figure if i overdo the H.P. too much i reduce overall driv-ability and troublefree operation, the same logic i like with my bikes....play with them, but keep them together.I like this setup--->1964-72 Chevelle/GTO Tremec Overdrive Transmission Kit Installation

the only other manual trannies that come to mind are Muncie, Borg-Warner, and Getrag. i checked the price of a Borg T56 back then and it was something like $6500. ouch! i'm sure they're not much cheaper these days.

ah, cool. looks like they're modified Tremec units - i assume a few custom gears in the guts, and a custom linkage here and there.

hehe - when i was getting really creative with my motor parts selection (850hp and up), i started thinking about a Lenco tranny. those suckers will handle 1000hp easily, but they're drag units so probably not that great for downshifting or skipping gears. that and having to change the tranny oil every 1000 miles was a bit wonky to me.
