Default 2008 m50

My ride c/w Suzuki screen, sissy bar and bag supports. I didn't buy their bags - I use some throw overs I bought in Sturgis.

Default M50 Debadging

There are some sweet m50's out there that I've seen, and I like the debadged look. Does anyone know how difficult it is to debadge? Does the tank have to be repainted? That seems like a lot of work, but I see a lot debadged m50's on here so I am wondering if I am missing the easy way to approach this.

Thanks.

You just need elbow grease, patience, mineral spirits, firm rubber hand squeegee and thick cotton rag.

No you don't need to repaint the tank. Just wax it after you've removed the badges. Don't use any tools that would scratch the tank.

Awesome! This will be my first mod. Have you done this? So this is just glued on with some nice strong stuff? Any hints or tricks you mind sharing? About how long does it take to scrape it off nicely?

There's more than one way to skin a cat with this. The decal on the tank is plastic. I used a firm rubber squeegee to get underneath it and broke it off in about 3 pieces.

Then I had two rags. One I used a little mineral spirits and you slowly soak the glue that is left behind. That softens it up after 3-4 minutes of constant soaking. Then I take a thick cotton dry rag and firmly rub on the glue and it just balls right up. Keep doing that until its all off. Go back one final time with a clean rag and a little mineral spirits for a final wipe of any remaining residue. It takes some time to do and you'll have sore fingers from rubbing. But it does come off.

There's also a fishing line method that other guys have used that works good to.

I just took the gf's hair dryer in the garage, and hit the warning label with hot air until it became pliable enough to pick off a corner and peel away SLOWLY while continuing to blast it with hot air. After that, a little goo gone on a microfiber towel does the trick to clean off any remaining residue.

do NOT, i repeat, do NOT attempt to do this with a heat gun, you WILL most likely bubble the paint on the tank.

Well, still do not have the bags on but here she is so far. Fresh flat black paint, Mustang saddle, some minor chrome pieces thrown in and a few other mods. Really happy with how the shop got the flat black to turn out.

Default here's my '08 .......

These were taken in Lake George, NY on a little day trip. The next mods will be a set of pipes and then a memphis shades shield. It is pretty much stock. Oh, and a backrest for the wife......
