Default tire punchture sealent

I was going to take a couple spare tubes incase I have a flat. The person I am getting my windshield from, suggested this green goop that I can't recall then name. And said it will seal up most punctures. I just want to know do I carry patch kit, load this stuff in the tires, carry extra tubes, or all three? I have only had a flat one time in my life on a bike, and then it was the front tire. I actualy put my feet down infront of the pegs, and lifted the pressure off the front tire and destroyed a pair of shoes stopping the bike. My back was sour for 2 weeks but I didn't lay it down.
Anyway, I have to make a choice before I do a long haul. I have a patch kit already. But if this stuff works like I am told then it cold save some headaches.
