| I went out to my 01' grxr1000 Sunday night @ midnight and for some reason my headlights didnt come on. I was at work so I had to ride. I only live 4.6 miles from my office. Damn it was dark. Anyway, The bulbs are piaa extreme whites and the filaments are good. I understand that the piaa's amps are a bit higher. The fuses both high and low are also good. I verified this by taking the bike to my local bike shop. They said that the left hand control switch is the problem. I have had these bulbs for 3 years without any problem. I never use the switch due to the bulbs cut off the light at a level were oncomming cars wont get blinded unless they stare at them. Is it common for the switch to burn up without the fuses going??? I though it was maybe the switch as well when it wasnt the fuses or bulbs What do you think? |

| The higher wattage bulbs use more power than the stock ones, so your dimmer switch takes the abuse. Your fuses dont blow because its not a serious overload, but your switch probably failed from arcing when switching from high to low beams.

| Have you tried a new bulb? .... once I was walking down the street and found an HD bulb on the sidwalk with good filaments. Discarded from another rider no doubt....I figured since my HD high beams always burn out I may as well try it on my bike since they are just cheap-ass bulbs to begin with and constantly burn out and the buld LOOKED in good condition. It would turn out that an internal connection in the bulb was faulty -- a poorly manufactured bulb. The bulb would light up when I applied pressue to it, then would go out when I released pressure. So I just went back to stock yellow light for now... Just a thought, but since you've had 3 years of success that seems unlikely. Try the bulb directly on a 12V source to see if it lights.... it's a free test. And that's much cheaper than a new control switch! |
