I'm new to this site and this is my first post. Finding lots of good info here. Anyways I bought a Fj600 w/30k mi. a few months ago and really like the bike. It's in great shape but had some serious cold start problems, seemed to flood if I used the choke at all and not enough fuel without any enrichment, and lots of "flat spots" on acceleration so I pulled off the carbs cleaned them, no new parts though, and found the float height/fuel level set too high, someone had messed with the carbs before. I also balanced the carbs. So it runs and starts fine now acceleration is smooth but from what I've heard about these bikes it should be pretty "zippy" I've had quite a few different bikes but actually this ones a bit of a dog right now. I recently did a compression test and came up with 135/115/130/130 not great but doesn't seem too bad. I didn't check jet size when I had it apart, someone could have messed with that too. I guess I'm wondering if anyones got any suggestions, I'm going to tear it apart this winter and replace the cam chain guides (noisy) and wonder If I should do valves and rings while I'm in there, or keep working on the carbs? does the slide main jet needle have an adjustable clip on these carbs? Thanks
