Default 1980 gs 1000g running problem

OK, i got my suzuki gs1000g, it sat for about a week maybe 2 after running fine. i had to replace the clutch cable and after doing that the bike now wont start. if i spray starter fluid into the carbs, it will run just off of that. i dont think the carbs would go bad after such a short time of sitting. One thing i did check so far is the spark. would the bike start if one cylinder was not getting spark? Its arking where the boot meets the wire. i saw that it is a assemble it yourself part, can i just try and get the cable back together or where is a good place to get new ones from. could that be the only problem or could it be more. the bike will just run off the starter fluid, which i find weird. how would i check the carbs. I am mechanically inclined so i can do it myself but just trying to fix it without having to buy un neccesary parts.
