I've got a '95 Honda Shadow 1100 A.C.E. The battery was dead the other morning, so I jumped it and let it run for a bit before going to work. When I got out onto the road in 1st gear, it was acting like I was trying to take off in too high a gear, coughing and sputtering and lurching, even though I was in 1st gear. I shifted up to second and it did the same thing. I kept having to shift back down into 1st gear, and a couple of times it backfired and sounded like a gunshot, and then for no apparent reason it completely shut down and would not start back up. I wasn't too far from home, so I just walked it back. I have no idea what could be wrong with it, but I'd like to get an idea before I take it in somewhere.
