Default having trouble shifting into 1st

I have a 1998 Yamaha YZF 600r. Im having problems getting into 1st gear. This happens after the engine was warmed up, and in each case I have been riding for about at least 10 minutes. Last time it happened was when I got back home after riding for 45 minutes, I parked the bike on the garage (idling in neutral), and went to open the garage door, when I got back on the bike it just didn't want to get in 1st gear. I didn't want to step on the lever harder, I tried putting it into 2nd, and then back into neutral, after trying this couple of times, it finally worked, but it took me a good few minutes trying to get it into 1st.

This doesn't seem to be the case when engine is cold, It shifts like a dream when it is cold or in the first 10 minutes of the ride.

Any suggestions or tricks to prevent this from happening? Did anyone have a similar experience?

Thanks.
