Default Understanding Torque and Torque wrenches...

Hi,

I just got my first bike & would like to know begin attempting to understand the mechanics and workings of the bike so that I feel more comfortable with the bike than if someone else always fixes it up. ANyway, I have a 450 GS Suzuki & just piked up a Torque wrench as a result of the first mistake which I've already made which I won't get into. Nonetheless, I feel that I piked up the wrong KIND of Torque, I mean I think that I have one that won't measure the small amounts of pressure that are necessary for those finer parts. I got a Craftsman wrench measuring 25- 250 in-lbs/ 3.61 to 29.03 N`m.
I have a manuel, and for the finer parts, like the engine bolts, etc., it specifies pressures such as .629-.630, or .708-.709 mm, or .0020-.0024 in.

P.S. Can anyone point me in a direction for trying to understand the tools/measurements. I feel lost & don't know where to begin.

If someone could help me out, I would appreciate it a lot.
Thanks
