Default Want to get it running better

I have an '02 GS500 that I got with about 300 miles on it. I just did break-in maintenance (around 600 miles) and got it to start back up, but it doesn't seem to want to run very well. I lugs a lot in first until you get it up to about 5,000 rpm and then takes off with a vengance. A friend says that it kind of sounds fuel starved, but not sure what to do from here. Thought it may be the spark plugs and that I should change them (flooded the bike at one point trying to start it), but after talking to a friend, he says that's probably not the case. Any suggestions on what might be going wrong? Throttle issue or fuel issue?

Look for pinched vacume lines or air leaks around the carbs..

you shouldn't be running it under 5000 anyhow.
