Hello Everyone: It's been a while since I've been on. Buying a house..getting..whatever close to married etc etc...boating etc etc..kids etc etc. Anyway. About 3 months ago Sue's Gixxer 750 has a terrible knock in it as we rode home. She stopped immediately, called her dad and her brought his pickup to tow it home. It sat at the dealer for 3 months. Crazy to say she called and they didn't realize you have to pull the motor to remove the oil pan. A bit more because, for those mechanics will wonder this. Compression check is fine and oil pressure supposidly is fine. She was low on oil. I saw her put almost a quart in it when she heard the knock. The bike takes 3.6 quarts. She tells me the dealer said they will only charge her an hour labor but the bike has the plastics off and the exhaust off. Question. I haven't removed a motor but her father of 77 years has. He has worked on motorcycles since the old Indian days. Opion is..can we get by with a Clymer Manual? I know it depends on how deep we need to go but I ask because I can get a Clymer manual quick verses getting a Suzuki Manual. I know the question could be if it is a rap or a tap. Could I get opinions please? Her dad and I will check the compression and the oil pressure again. Then we'll need to remove the motor. Note..remember his is 77 years old. This is both a pain but a nice project that he, I...even Sue could so as a "family project." Not only does she have nice legs but she is will to work on bikes and get her hands dirty. So I don't wish to just buy another motor. I personally want to fix this MF. Opinons on what you think it might be and what we should first check for. Examples I am thinking of is rocker arm, valves etc. Sincerly... |
