Default ts185 improvments

hello, i recently picked up a '75 ts185. this is my first off road bike. the bike is in fantastic shape. couple of dings here and there.but runs great! beautifuly light handleing on rocky trails. i would like to get 'just a little' more out of it. i'm not looking for top end, but gearing to keep me going up the steeps without running the red line. the stock sprockets are 12-39. would a 41,42tooth rear sprocket work or would that be too much? the front could use one of those horseshoe shaped fork braces. i'm not sure if if they are still made, and if so, who makes or sells them. i'm trying to keep the bike as close to "1975" as possible. any carb tweaksthat might help? i having fun washing the mud off it every other day! thanks for any and all help.
