Default heat range on spark plugs linked to plug fouling?

im trying to figure out how my plugs got fouled in my 96' katana 600 and they were CR9EK instead of DR8ES im not sure of the differences between these plugs but if i order some DR8ES plugs will they not foul as quickly

You should be using the recommended plugs unless you are into burning holes in pistons or melting ring landings. There are many reasons a bike can foul plugs. You need to put the std plugs back in and check your float height and the needle valves in the carbs for wear. Also take note of any dirt in the float bowls before you clean them and have them syncronized.

sounds good i guess the plugs are the same although the plugs for valves 3&4 were more fouled than the rest so i'll do a sync job quick question tho am i suppose to block off the vaccum line going from the rightmost carb to the fuel petcock? or do i keep it opened cuz there is a big difference i just can't get a straight answer to that question

That is a very good question. I believe if you are using an alternate fuel source ( take the tank of for syncronizing) you would block it off. If you are using the bikes tank to supply fule during the sync process then leave it cpnnected to the tank.
