The filter looks in good shape. I did clean it a couple weeks ago. I'll remember that when I replace it.

Sounds like you got it right.

So don't over think it.

No that you got the fuel mix right. Adjust the idle screw properly, and you're all set.

if it starts to backfire again remove the round cover on the side of the carb with the two screws on it becareful because there is a spring under it and a rubber diaphragm take the spring and cut 10mm off of it and this will solve all your backfire problems

It didn't backfire for two or three days now it does only rarely. It did once yesterday. It used to be a regular thing but now seems to be only rarely which is much better.

What is the procedure you described above doing for the backfire? And thanks in advance for the input.

That spring controls the air cut off diaphragm which is to help popping on decel by cutting off the air and making it richer the spring is to stiff allowing it to not work properly

Great info on this post. I've been watching in closely. I'll be doing these mods sometime in the future because my wife doesn't like it when her bike "farts".

It wouldn't be so bad except sometimes the backfire was pretty loud and even scared me. After doing the spacer removal and the mixture adjusting it really improved the backfire down to only once in a while instead of every deceleration. I'm going to try the mod recommended by Honda tech next to see if I can completely eliminate it. BTW not only did it improve the backfire problem but also improved the performance and idle.

I would do the spring mod before doing the spacer and mixture since the carb doesn't have to be removed to do this would save you alot of time. You might not even have to touch the spacer or mixture settings
