Default 80 Yamaha Maxim 650 Won't Start

I recently purchased a 1980 Yamaha Maxim with 10k miles. When I viewed the bike, it started pretty good, after having sat for 1 year. It has a new battery and new solenoid, but when I got it home it also started fine, for a ride around the yard. Next day started ok, idles a little low, but can figure that one out. I went to start it again after gearing up, and it behaved as if the battery was dead. So I tried to jump it, and it wouldn't go. Then I did the old, roll it down the hill and pop it in first, which worked well, which led me to believe further that the battery just needed a good charge. Well, when I got it down the street, about 1/4 mile, pulled into a school parking lot to feel it out before I really went for a ride and it died again. Tried the clutch pop again, and wouldn't go. Could this be a voltage regulator, magneto, CDI Ignitor or Starter Circuit relay? and how do I test those things?

Thanks for helping the Newbie
