Default xr200 shifting woes

hey all 1st post, hope you all can help. Tried search with no luck. I aquired a 99 xr200. The bike starts fine runs fine but it wouldn't want to shift from 2nd to nuetral or first. I search the net and read that it's common for the shift plate and star (shirt cam) to wear a flat spot that makes it not shift well, or clutch not fully disengaging. Now I ran it through all the gears including 1st and nuetral (shifting real soft to get it to 1st) when I first got it. But my daughter kinda over did it trying to get it into 1st. I tore into it and ordered parts star, plate, clutch, clutchbasket. But now... I took the clutch out and tried to run through the gears with no luck. Shouldn't I be able to go through all the gears by turn the nut that holds the shift cam?? I've done some wrenching, but first on a bike. I hope I don't have go into it further. I need some advice. The first time I turn the bolt to go through gears it went through 3.now 2 Do you think bent fork or smessed up drum?? Do you think I could repair if trannys messed up?? Thanks in advance
