Default Homemade highway pegs....

Ok, first some detail, then some thoughts from ya'll about what I want to try and do. Bike came with highway bar and pegs that bolt onto the downtubes. As my inseam is 34"+, these were useless for me. Not comfortable at all. I took this off, and installed 4" floorboard extensions, so this bar wouldn't have worked anyway. Instead of selling it, or letting it collect dust, I thought I'd try and fabricate it into an "off the floorboard highway peg". Take a look at the pic. I want to try and cut the rod just to the right of the bracket (this is shifter side) (black line indicates cut). Then drill two holes in the floorboard and mount the bracket and cut bar to the floorboard. This should extend the cut piece forward and out. I can then flip in the peg. Question I have, how can I cut thru the 5/8" rod? Local shop? I am doubting my hacksaw will chew through this solid rod. Thoughts? Just trying to reuse some parts and do some fabricating myself. Thanks ya'll.
