Default Ignition Problem 2007 M50

I had an issue about a month ago where I would turn the key on my bike and the headlights would go on for a second and then shut off. I would push the key a little more and they would stay on the bike would start and all would be fine. Well yesterday I went out and only the brake light would come on. I took apart a bunch of stuff and checked all of the fuses and some other stuff and nothing. Then all of a sudden I turned the key and presto all was fine. Well after 2 days and 300 miles the problem returned. I turn the key to the on position and just the tail light comes on, no headlights or fuel injection. Any ideas. my guess is the ignigtion switch either has a short or has failed. Any idea? Also the switch has a Torx like screw in it with a little tie( for lack of a better word) in the middle. Does anybody know where to get the tool to open this up so I can check to see if it is something simple.
