| Just got a bike running after about 15 years of sitting up. The carbs were so bad that I had to dismantle every one and soak in carb cleaner. The butterflies were stuck solid but after a 1 day soak they are free. After installing and running. ( I did set the valves and sync the carbs) the bike will idle fine but when you give it gas it is somewhat slow to come up but it takes a while to idle down. I have checked for vacuum leaks ( spray carb cleaner around boots) with no increase in idle. We did overhaul the carbs which only included the few o-rings and needle/float assy. Any Ideas specifically where to look?

| HI Tbone have you checked the vacuum pistons to see if they are ok.I had pretty much the same problem on an 84 shadow 500 the diaphrams were shot. This bike set up about 10 years. Those pistons are about $100.00 each.Good luck hope it's not too bad.

| I have had the diaphrams out and they look to be ok. I don't know what a "shot" diaphram looks like though. I see no cracks or anomolies. I did notice after checking further that when you hold the throttle wide open it starts bogging down at about 7 grand. Redline is about 10 something. It does not change if you add choke or decrease throttle under that throttle setting. I did talk to a old bmw mechanic that to him it may possibly be a ignition advance stuck. Not sure about that.

| The diaphrams I was talking about were stretched out of shape and soft feeling.Yours may be ok,at least I hope they are,for what they cost.Maybe someone can give a little more info later on.Good luck.

| I had an '86 VF700C. Bought it used, rode it for 9 years, the guy I sold it too is still riding it round trip to work (80 miles). When he bought it, he changed the plugs (and found out why I didn't all the time I owned it Great bike, hope you get it all squared away.
