Red face Vstar 1100 vapor locking problem

Hello everyone! I am JerziGirl. I have a problem and am hopeing someone has an answer for me. My 2004 vstar 1100 silverado is vapor locking on me. It has stalled already on me while riding and has had trouble starting. I discovered that when I take the gas cap off it releases pressure and then will start right up for me. It will run fine for awhile until builds up pressure again. The cap I have now is new and I was told is ventless so pretty sure it's not my cap. Please help. Thanx!

Is there a stopped up tube coming from teh bottom of the tank?

The reason I ask is because my Bandit (and I think my GSXR too) has an overflow tube and a vent tube (I think) coming from the bottom of the tank. One of yours may be stopped up?

I'm guessing here, so bear with me.

That pretty much HAS to be the problem; a plugged vent. If it is not in the cap, then the main problem is finding out where it IS.

P.S. The condition you describe is NOT vapor lock. That is a whole different problem.

if this yamaha operates in the way I believe it does, most likely the vacuum line from the engine to the tank.

Being 4 - 5 years old, there could be a crack in the vacuum line, or a loose connection on either end of the hose. Usually the connectors on the hose (factory original) are the cheapest darn things around that you need to replace with decent bought from your local hardware store hose clamps.

could be just that simple.

The problem is a vacuum is building in the tank because there is no venting, could be a hose, vent valve etc. Look at the fuel tank diagram, part #49 it is a vent valve. The diagram is poor so it's hard to tell how it's hooked up.

The diagram on this site is much better:

PS You will need to put in your bike info and then go to the fuel tank diagram.
