Default Royal star coils

Hello, I'm rebuilding a 97 Royal star and have a quick question about the coils and wiring them up. I have the Star with two coils to the front of the engine and two by the igniter, does it make a difference as to which coil goes to which cylinder, I know the coils are the same but my question is when connected to the wiring harness do you have to have them in a certain sequence? the two service manuals I have do not cover this clearly for me to understand. Thanks

I would strongly suggest getting a decent wiring diagram as this sounds like a twin spark job???or why have four coils. I am not too familiar with your bike and if the wiring needs to be in series or parallel is an important difference.

Good luck

Default is there a Mechanic in the house???

Hmmmm thats why I ask the questions, I have a clymer manual and a factory service manual, but neither goes into detail on this subject. no color chart for the wiring of the coils. this is the V4 engine thats why it has 4 coils. I thought maybe by asking the questions in the Mechanics corner I may get an answer from a Motorcycle Mechanic.

Right a V4 and a coil for each cylinder.

In theory it shouldn't matter which way the coils are positioned as long as they are all the same. You will need to take into account the firing order so that the igniter fires the correct coil for the correct cylinder at the correct time.

If you have the clymer manual it should state the firing order and show what colour wires go where.

I am not trying to be obtuse but the diagram must show where the ignition circuits are and in what order the coils should be wired and therefore fired.

If the firing order is not stated you can pull the rocker covers off and watch the valves move and then work out the order.

Whilst doing this pull the ignitor cover off and check its position in regards to each ignition point and from there track it down the the particular coil in question.

Hope this helps and if you do get an answer from an m/c mechanic ask him to help us all out.

Good luck
