Default my bike is bogging

so tonight i went out for a ride, just for no reason, its a perfect 72 and clear so i thought what the hell. so i'm taking it out, i lay on the accelorator and i get a lackluster responce. i figure the bike is still warming up, and i started it with no choke so its completly normal. so i get it out on the main roads, the bike is usually warmed up by the time i hit 2nd gear. it just never happened. everytime i would put on some throttle, i got minimal responce. i'm thinking the slides arent sliding, if thats at all a possibility seeing as that i cleaned them like an anal retentive gearhead in may when i was trying to get the bike running. so before i go and tear the carbs off, would anyone like to give me another possible answer to the problem?

how long since you last rode it?

Air cooled or water cooled bike?

Full tank of gas or low?

How well was it running before? (goes along with #1)

How well did it idle?

And you're sure you didn't have the choke on? (depending on age of bike, could be old style choke which just restricts air flow).

However, sounds more like you aren't getting fuel in there. bit of grit in the jets? Very odd...

it ran well enough not to worry too much about it.

positive, switch was pulled all the way and i made sure the choke was pushed in on the carbs too just incase the cable was sticking, and its not one of those that choke the air flow, its the one of the ones that has its own bypass[/quote]

yeah, thats what i'm thinking, the slides arent sliding well thusly i cant get the correct air/fuel mixture in there.

Sorry to say it, but it looks like you might have to pull the carbs again.

When you went over them in May, did you fully disassemble them and clean them? or just give em a good spritzing of carb spray? The full monty will likely help you out more. How's your air filter doing? Wouldn't want you to clean up your carbs only to have more junk blow in from filter box.

Good Luck.

i got the bike from salvage in may, and the carbs from a different salvage yard, and when i went to put the carbs on the bike, they wouldnt work. soo, in an effort to get them to work, i was forever taking them off and putting them back on, cleaning and tweaking every time. so i guess its not that big of a deal, just kind of annoying. thanks for the advice.

Man, you got a good deal. Hey, for $60, you gotta' expect to do a little tweaking, eh?

well, $60 plus the $900 in parts i put into it afterward. plus i got a hookup with the paintjob. the guy i work for also owns a bodyshop, so i was able to go over there and paint it myself, they hooked me up with free paint and materials. so thats like another $300 saved. hopefully i'll be able to flip it and sell it for alot more this spring.
