Default Installing floor boards

I have ordered floorboards for my 2001 Volusia ... how hard are they to install? Any advise? Do I need a lift or can I do it without one? Lastly do I need any special tools?

Thanks, Moose

Mooserob-

The install of the floorboards is easy. You don't need a lift. I have the Suzuki floorboards on my 2004 Volusia. The hardest part of the install is to remove that slot ring at the end of the bar the holds the peg in place. I used a small slotted screwdriver and a pair of needle nose pliers to remove that ring without much difficulty. It will just pop off. Be careful not to twist or bend it. If you do don't worry you could buy a new one. There also is a tool you could buy for the removal, but the screwdriver/pliers combination worked well for me. Make sure you pay attention to the spring position when you remove the original peg. Place that bar/spring through the holes on the floorboard and attach the ring back to the bar and your done. This was the first accessory I added to my bike and I remember being nervous. It took maybe 10 minutes to do both sides. The unfortunate thing is it built so much self confidence I ended up adding many more accessories myself. That is dangerous!! HA!

Good call on getting floorboards. I would also consider a heel/toe shifter too.

Thanks for the great advise! Iy was very easy to install.

What is a good brand of heal to toe shifter, and is that something I could install or do I need to have it done?

I have seen many different brands out there. I would check a Suzuki dealer first to see if there is an OEM one. It doesn't look difficult to install. It basically takes the toe shifter and extends it to your heel so that you can upshift with your heal rather than lifting up with your foot.

bhamon thanks for the site and the info. Two other quick questions, what octane gas do you run (what mileage PG should I be expecting?)

Also what kind of oil do you recommend?

Thanks again, I am a newbie but am really enjoying my Volusia something fierce. I fly F-16s for a living and this is the closest thing I have found on the ground!!

I've been running 87 octane (which is the minimum recommended) in my 2005 C50. Averaging a tick over 50mpg. Recommended oil is SAE 10W40.

I've never flown in F-16s - closest I've come is a single engine Cessna, and most stick time was in a glider But my C50 is a kick

Same here, except the flying part. The manual states 87 octane and 10w40. My dealer told me not to use synthetics.

All, thanks again for the great help...and since we are on the subject, I was hoping I could impose some more questions.

Seats, the stock one is not bad, but if I were going to trade up what do you recommend?

Anyone in the Northern VA area that wants to ride?

Thanks again, Moose

PS how do I get a small picture of my Volusia in my signature?

Look at the top of the page... 5th item over is 'profile'.

Click, then scroll down to the bottom to the avatar control panel. You can either upload it directly from your computer or from an url.

I've only sat on a bike with one installed. I don't know how it rides. Maybe mine will break in eventually, but it seems stiff right now.
