It probably needs fresh gas and maybe new plugs. If it has a manual petcock, is it turned ON? If the petcock is automatic, you need to leave it in the PRIme position for 15 minutes or so before turning it over. Was the choke in use? What exactly do you mean by "try to start"?? If all of the above checks out and it sounds like it is actually firing but just won't quite KEEP running, then a little starting fluid squirted into the air box might help get it going the first time.

| Third gear and cruising ![]() | If it's turning over when you try to start it, then it's either not getting fuel, air or spark. If you know how to check the spark, do that. It's easier then carb work. If it's been sitting a long time it's going to need new gas and the carbs will probably need to be cleaned. A fully charged battery will definately help as well.

See previous post from Navy. Also need to check the kill switch and the various safety interlocks, like kick stand, clutch and neutral sensor. Kill must be in RUN position, kick stand down, xmission in neutral and clutch pulled IN. If it gets spark, then a little starting Ether might help get it going the first time.

| Is fresh gas acually that important? It's only been sitting for aprox. 3 months. The guy charged the battery and said it was a no go. Tommorw im going to go over to the guy's house and empty the gas, and try some starting fluid. I acually have some for when i rebuilt my dirt bike. I'm pritty sure its getting spark. I didnt have time to check as i was in a rush but it should as the bike looks brand new and has been covered its whole life. Last edited by fireonice; 12-10-2007 at 06:08 PM. |

| Three months is a pretty long time for a bike to have sat. Was it run at all during that time??? The battery will probably be toast if it wasn't recharged during the three months. As Er said check all safety interlocks and take a can of WD40 to spray any that you can find. Also if the battery is toast it may not be able to provide sufficient power to the starter and the plugs at the same time so bump....NOT jump.... starting may be your only option. Good luck

3 months is not long........if the gas was fresh going in (doubtful) and if the battery was fully charged going in (also probably doubtful). It's pretty easy to tell if the battery is shot; not so with the gas. I'd put in fresh.

| [quote=Easy Rider;389518]Well I guess you don't have much experience with a REAL winter ?? Well let me tell you...... Ah remember when it were so cold me hands were frozen "t" bars and we ad to thaw our willies out just to pee...and THAT were summer!!!!!!!! I do remember really cold weather....minus 5 and a wind chill factor that made all exposed extemeties blue... and a fully charged battery could handle it even with minimal attention..... and believe me I was young and ignorant....big hammer was all I had in my toolbox and maaaaan was it big!
