Default audio problem

I recently installed a cigarette lighter on my '01 Goldwing and I now have no sound from my radios (stock & XM). I removed the XM radio connection at the auxillary/accessory connection under the left-side fairing compartment. I spliced the XM into the cigarette lighter wiring. Then I plugged the lighter connection (that now has the XM radio spliced into it) into the accessory connection. The lighter works fine, but now I have no sound from either of the radios. They both function properly with regard to display, tuning, changing bands, etc; however, there is no sound from the speakers now. Even when I disconnect the lighter from the connection, I still have no audio. Please help! Thanks.

Sounds like you may have messed up some speaker wires while you were re-wiring, if the units seem like they're working.

Grab a multimeter and see if you're getting current to the speakers.

Alrighty, I'll check that out in the a.m. Do you by chance know if there is a fuse for the speakers? (I've checked every fuse in the box and they are fine). Thanks much, Bob.

If everything worked before you did the wiring mods, then it is almost certain that you in-advertently disconnected a plug or forgot to plug something back in. Barring that, it may be that you cut or spliced a wrong wire, but that seems very unliekely in this case. If your audio sources (XM and regular radio) run to an outboard amplifier (as I imagine it does) you may have somehow disconnected the power to that amplifier when you installed the cig lighter.

Yea, it's odd. I didn't touch any other wiring anywhere. Simply disconnected one plug and put another in its place. Should've stuck with the idea of velcro-ing a 50-cent lighter on the fairing. Thanks for your reply, Bob

Check all the ground wires.

Problem solved! Turns out I had a bad connection where I had spliced the XM into the lighter wiring. MANY THANKS to all those that responded. wyebp
