Default Fuel Pump happy fun time

My rf900's fuel pump seems to be going out (according to the local shop). Because of the bike's age and (relative) rarity, going to the local junk yard to find an exact replacement isn't really an option.

Would repairing it be an option? Is there another bike which has a fuel pump that would do a good job of taking its place? The local bike shop quoted me upwards of $200 for a brand new one from suzuki, and I'm not sure I want to spend that kind of money on that single little peice for this 12 yr old bike.

The problem according to them is that the pump can't keep up with (is it the float bowls?) under constant accel, so it's not as smooth until it's given a chance to fill it up again.
