Exclamation '96 GSXR 1100 - Please Help!

Hi,

I have a 96 GSXR 1100, and havent been able to get it started all summer. I was hoping that someone would have some insight as to whats wrong with it. I got it running 2 weeks ago after I cleaned out the gas tank and put in a bottle of Carb Cleaner. I left it concentrated with only 1 gallon of gas to make sure it was effective. So i warmed up the bike for 30 mins and it was fine. A few backfires but nothing major. I took it out on the street and after about 5 miles of riding I took it into 4 gear and the engine started to sputter. I had to increse the throttle substanically to keep it running. Then eventually it just stalled and was stranded. I was able to start it back up after a few cranks and turning the throttle, but it quickly made a sputtering sound and stalled again....

I looked at the fuelcock and found that it was in the prime position and that it was broken and didnt work in the on position. I just installed a brand new fuelcock, and was able to start the bike again. I took it off choke after about 5-10 mins of it being on. Then once again the idle started to dwindle so I throttled it again, and once again the same sputtering sound. Finally it stalled the same way it did two weeks ago. I drained the battery trying to start it again. Im charging the battery up again, and am lost trying to figure out what could be wrong. Any advice in this matter would be appriciated!

I would put my money on the carbs being dirty.

Not a bad plan, but I think you took it too far, or didn't follow through properly. Whatever you want to call it, I think you left the concentrated cleaner in TOO LONG.

What kind of cleaner (what brand) was it?

At this point, I think you need to clean and flush the tank, lines and carbs with fresh gas. Also check the fuel filter or screen, if you haven't already. Check the plugs.

Only after all that and assuming that it will run at least a bit.........I'd start the carb cleaning again with Gumout or Berryman's B 12 and finish filling the tank after the first run with an extra concentrated solution.

If that doesn't do the job, you probably need the carbs off, taken apart and cleaned manually.

Good luck!

Try the air filter too sounds like a very lean condition to me...this can be confirmed by pulling the plugs
