Default SoCal weather warm enough to not need choke?

Here in san diego it's been really nice lately, and my bike (81 GS450-S) doesn't need the choke at first start. Is this common for warm weather?

I think it's pretty common for air-cooled bikes. All of the previous 6 bikes I've owned were air-cooled and I never needed the choke when the weather was warm.

My current bike is a water-cooled Marauder. I have to use the choke, though only for 30 seconds or so, even if the temperature's in the 90s. I think that's the norm for water-cooled bikes.
