Hiya all , my dad has got a suzuki gt200 2stroke had it about 3weeks now , last week he went to open it up at 50mph and it just died and wouldnt start, he has checked the carbs and they are fine letting enough fuel through there is also good spark from the spark plugs , and the pistons are in good shape and rings, and it just will not start ! we have even tryed pushing it and puttin it in to gear it just doesnt want to know, it kicks over but just doesnt want to start any one got any ideas why and what he could do?

Welcome, Chris. Will it fire at all? You say it's got spark, compression, and fuel, but something must be missing. We have some good mechanics here, so maybe we can help.

chrissssssssssssy,

With all that kicking and pushing and not starting the plugs should look wet when you take them out, do they? If they do it means you have fuel getting through.

To me it sounds like you have no sparks, you may have one at the plug resting on the fins but when under pressure a weak spark won't jump the gap.

I'll see if I can find a circuit diagram for an X5 and have a look. BTW I used to own an X7; nice bike but ate pistons.

Before you go seling it I would take off the exhaust and clean around the exhaust port...even try running without a muffler for a short time. Two strokes are well known for clogging their exhaust ports and mufflers with carbon and a bike of that vintage probably is full of it. I remeber the x7s and they were one of the fastest 250cc bikes on the road at the time. You may end up regretting selling it.

Check the point gap and then the timing, also try some new plugs. The plugs may be fouled out.

Looking at the circuit diagram it could be one of three things, but I reckon it would be worth disconnecting and reconnecting the plugs and sockets between the generator and the coil pack. Just in case it is a tired old connector.

If that doesn't work it looks like it will be the generator, the CDI or the coils.
